History

Black Ops 3

On November 9th, 2015, Luminosity Gaming announced their expansion into Call of Duty eSports with the signing of Replays, ProoFy, SpaceLy, and John for the 2015 - 2016 season. The team would first be invited to the Totino's Invitational 2015 at the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3. the team would be matched up against Rise Nation. Their newly build roster was too much for the team and they would lose the series 1-3 and be eliminated from the tournament. The team would then practice for the upcoming 2016 CWL NA Pro Division Qualifying Invitational Tournament that would able them to qualify for the 2016 COD World League NA Pro Division Stage 1. The team would be placed in Group B along side Rise Nation, Team eLevate, and 3sUP. The team would face off against Team eLevate in the first series and would lose 1-3 and be pushed down to the Losers Bracket. The team then would go up against 3sUP. The team would have no problem and win 3-0 moving on to the second decider match with Team eLevate. The team would be swept and be eliminated from the tournament.

After the tournament, the team decided to make a roster change. The team would replace ProoFy and switch in Saints in time for the 2016 CWL NA Pro Division Online Qualifying Tournament. The team would start the tournament with no losses. The next day the team would punch their way to the decider match between Enigma 6 Gold after only losing 2 maps prior. The team would sweep Enigma 6 Gold and qualify for the 2016 COD World League NA Pro Division Stage 1. The team would finish 7th place in 2016 COD World League NA Pro Division Stage 1 with a 9-13 record. At 2016 NA CWL Stage 1 Playoffs, the team lost to Rise Nation in the first round 4-1 and finished 5-8th place. Before the beginning of the 2016 NA CWL Stage 2 Regular Season, Luminosity would switch out John for TeePee and SpaceLy would move to substitute for StuDyy. Over the course of the stage, Luminosity hovered beneath the relegation line before finally reaching 7th place via tiebreaker in the final week. Due to another tiebreaker at the top of the standings, the team would face OpTic Gaming at the 2016 NA CWL Stage 2 Playoffs. Surprising everyone, Luminosity upset OpTic Gaming in a seven game series to advance to the semifinals. Luminosity would then be upset by Dream Team and finish in 3rd-4th place. The upset over OpTic Gaming earn the team enough CWL Championship Points to qualify for the 2016 Call of Duty World League Championship. They were placed in Group C and defeated ANZ teams Mindfreak and Chiefs eSports Club but lost to rising UK team FAB Games eSports. In bracket play, Luminosity defeated Team Allegiance before falling to Rise Nation and dropping to the Loser's Bracket and getting taken out swiftly by OpTic Gaming. The finished the event in 9th-12th place. In the days leading up to the release of Infinite Warfare, Luminosity dropped NAMELESS, SpaceLy and StuDyy in favor of former Rise Nation players Classic, Octane and Slacked.

Infinite Warfare

LG continued into the Infinite Warfare season with the new found roster. The year began well, but were held back by their poor performances in Search and Destroy. The team finished the 2017 CWL Las Vegas Open with a 5/6th place finish, being knocked into loser's bracket by Rise Nation, Classic, Octane and Slacked's former organisation. They were then eliminated by Team Allegiance. Moving onto CWL Atlanta, the team proved to be a top contender reaching the top 4. However they were then beaten 3-1 by Team EnVyUs in winners semi-finals, and subsequently knocked out in a Game 5 by OpTic Gaming, again Search and Destroy failing them. For the 2017 CWL Paris Open, Luminosity were forced to use fill in, Pandur, because of issues involving Saints' visa. The team ultimately struggled to adapt, finishing 9-12th place. Their struggles continued at the 2017 CWL Dallas Open, again showing LG's weakness in Search and Destroy, again being beaten by OpTic Gaming in Game 5 after losing both SnDs. Then again losing out to Team EnVyUs in another game 5, finishing 7-8th. The team posted a 72% win rate in respawn modes, but a mere 30% in Search and Destroy.

Qualifying for the 2017 CWL Global Pro League Stage 1, the team were be placed in the Yellow Group alongside eUnited, Epsilon, and Millenium. LG finished 4-2 in the group, clinching a second place spot after beating eUnited in the last series. Now in the later half of the season, the team began to find success. At Stage 1 Playoffs LG proved their improvement in Search and Destroy, and continued to be one of the best in respawn modes. They managed their best placing so far finishing 2nd, losing to Splyce in the grand final. Despite not winning the event, many fans now considered LG amongst the very best Infinite Warfare teams, given they had beaten all 4 'elite' North American teams EnVyUs, OpTic, eUnited and FaZe Clan. With the momentum of Playoffs behind them, LG came into the 2017 CWL Anaheim Open as one of the favourites. Luminosity avoided the losers bracket, winning all of their matches on championship Sunday without dropping a map. Reaching the Grand Final, LG once again faced Splyce, a rematch of the Playoff finals. However this time the roles were reversed, as Splyce had come from the losers bracket, they had to win 2 best of 5 series to win the event. LG proved to strong once again. Despite losing one of the closely contested Hardpoint's of the year 249-250, LG bounced back, winning the next 3 maps, including another very close game 4 Hardpoint, 250-245. This was Luminosity's first championship win in Call of Duty eSports. The event solidified Luminosity as one of the best teams. Their main AR Octane, won MVP for the tournament, and was now considered one of the best AR players competing.
